How to do Fashion Week with a Baby

London Fashion Week with a Baby

With my 9 weeks old daughter, Ayame, strapped on me with a sling, Fashion Week this season was very special and a completely new experience.  As Ayame’s first Fashion Week, we only attend a few exclusive events and presentations instead of going to shows which can be very hectic at times.  I was also slightly worried about being constantly on the move with her, but luckily, she seemed to enjoy being around the buzz and basically slept through most events (it was the best background noise for her nap times)!

The highlight of our Fashion Week has to be the Aspinal presentation which had transformed their flagship store into an English garden.  With walls of flowers greeting us from the entrance, Ayame was mesmerised by the vivid colours of their new collection handbags and loved meeting new people.  As a die hard Strictly lover, I also turned into a total fan girl when I saw Bruno Tonioli there!  This Fashion Week has definitely been a memorable experience and I can’t wait to take Ayame to the next one in September! xxx

My Big News! Announcing My Pregnancy

Mariko Kuo pregnancy Mariko Kuo pregnancyMariko Kuo pregnancyMariko Kuo pregnancy Mariko Kuo pregnancy Mariko Kuo pregnancy Mariko Kuo pregnancy Mariko Kuo pregnancy

There’s been some big news that I’ve been wanting to share.  About 4 and a half months ago, I found out that I was pregnant!  After weeks of what I thought was a mild stomach flew, it suddenly dawned on me one night at dinner that maybe, just maybe, there might be some other reason behind my constant nausea.  We both looked at each other and thought, nah, can’t be.  But as soon as we got home, the first thing I did was to rummage through our bathroom cupboard for that stick.  After what felt like eternity, my heart thumping and a cold sweat forming on my forehead, the result was pretty conclusive. The plus mark was clearly visible!

We had discussed this a few months back and decided that it might be nice to start trying.  I could not think of anything more special than being able to add a mini-us to our little family with him.  I don’t think either of us actually thought that I would however, get pregnant so quickly.  To be honest, as I’ve had some health issues in the past, I thought this might take at least a year and potentially require multiple rounds of IVF.  So as the realisation slowly dawned on us, I have to say, I was slightly unprepared for the news, but definitely elated and relieved at how lucky we were.

I am proud to announce that I am now 20 weeks preggers and starting to feel the baby’s light thumps and wiggles.  I could have announced a lot sooner, but after reading up on ‘how and when to announce’, I felt that I wanted to keep this between me and my partner for a little longer.  Being 5 months, I’ve had the chance to do some initial research and feel like I can confidently share my experience with you and other fellow mothers-to-be.

So from this point onwards, stay tuned for baby updates and my thoughts on being pregnant!

PS: these photographs were taken by my baby daddy in Ibiza as the sun set over the horizon.  I could not be happier to be able to share these moments with him.   The fact that he took them makes these photographs even more special.

One Suit, Two Cities

How I wore my Gestuz Suit in Two Cities

Big Ben, London

As you know, I’m a die hard suit advocate.  Whether as workwear or occasion wear, suits are my go to combo that I think makes quite the sartorial statement.  I always try and find a new suit combination every season and the Gestuz Cori blazer and wide leg trousers have been my ‘It’ suit ever since I spotted them.  With navy pinstripes and a laid back feel, this suit has been the ultimate versatile look for 2017.  To show you how much I love this look, I’ve shot it in two of my favourite cities in the world, London (of course!) and New York.  I didn’t think one post would do this look justice so the One Suit, Two Cities editorial will be split into two blog posts.

I hope you like the two ways I’ve dressed this suit in the two cities.  For the London look, I just had to shoot with the most quintessentially London backdrop, Big Ben.  The London look itself is more of a statement look to wear to a big occasion.  Instead of a dress, I think this suit is androgynous, but by cinching in the wait with a belt, this look manages to maintain some femininity  (I hope!).

Matthew Williamson Party Capsule Collection Launch Lunch

Celebrating Matthew Williamson‘s

Party Capsule Collection with the #GownGang

Matthew Williamson has always been one of my go to designers for occasion wear.   So it was such an honour to join my favourite blogger babes over lunch to celebrate Matthew’s Party Capsule Collection launch hosted by the lovely Camila Coutino.  After swishing and dancing around showing off our beautiful gowns down the streets of London, we settled in for a special lunch at The Library’s private dining space.

For my look, I wore a vibrant sunset shade blouse and floor sweeping silk chiffon skirt.  The skirt is such a dramatic statement piece that is sexy yet romantic at the same time.  I teamed this look with a show stopper fur coat embellished with crystals.

What a fantastic way to spend the afternoon catching up with my friends all dressed up in Matthew’s stunning party pieces!

With my birthday mid month and Christmas shortly after, December is hands down my favourite month of the year.  I have been feeling especially festive this year and I’m definitely counting down the days until Santa pays a visit.  With the Christmas tree going up within the first weekend, I am aboslutely loving spending time at home at the moment.

With Santa’s arrival imminent, I’ve started to think about what to wear on Christmas.  There’s always an internal debate that I have on whether to wear a Christmas jumper or go all glam.  This year, after some back and forth, I’ve decided to dress up with a little black dress (let’s not kid around, it’s very important to look amazing when Santa comes down the chimney right?).  LBDs are the best clothing of choice for such an important occassion!

My choice of LBD for the big night is this Nevery Fully Dressed frock available at Silkfred.  With delicate lace details, this LBD is so adorable and feminine.  As it could be quite a long night (you never know when Santa might arrive), I absolutely love how lightweight and comfortable this dress is.  For anyone in search of that perfect LBD or a special dress for Christmas, be sure to check out Silkfred‘s collection!

PS: As Ms Santa, my early Christmas pressy to you is a discount code on Silkfred! Use code ‘Mariko10’ for a 10% discount! xxx

Aquascutum SS17 Presentation

Salon 1851

Aquascutum SS17 Presentation

A major highlight of this season’s London Fashion Week was the Aquascutum SS17 presentation entitled ‘Salon 1851’.  My story began a few days before the anticipated presentation at Aquascutum’s head quarters for my fittings and a sneak peak of the presentation to come.  After trying on a few different looks, I was completely hooked on this jumpsuit with fringed details set on a bold navy and white striped fabric.

Set in One Blegravia, one of London’s coveted townhouses next to Buckingham palace, Salon 1851 was an elegant scene which took me back to the romantic days gone past.  The Helmut Newton inspired scene was the perfect setting to showcase the feminine designs by new Brit designer, Kasha Crampton.  With a mix of elegant silhouettes and bold textures and fabrics, the collection encapsulated the identity of Aquascutum completed.

Pas De Deux II

Part Deux

I am finally able to fulfil my long awaited promise for a Part Deux to my Boodles Story.  I cannot believe what was meant to be a short interval to my second part of this story has now become long overdue.  To pick up from where I left off, Part Deux of my Boodles Story is about my third look which I shot with Boodles – monochrome masculinity.

Inspired by and in collaboration with The Royal Ballet, the kite shape diamond pieces from the Pas De Deux collection are diverse with an unique design encompassing the elegance and flair of ballet.  With such exciting and dramatic designs to work with, it was absolutely crucial that my third look lived up to these exquisite works of art.   As stunning fine jewellery pieces for any black tie affair, I decided my third look should be a little edgier than a ball gown. This is why this incredibly chic Balmain two piece suit seemed to be the perfect match which complimented the jewellery.

Behind the Scenes

As I was adorned and literally draped in diamonds, it suddenly dawned on us that I was wearing some priceless one of a kind pieces.  We therefore thought it would be best to stay within the premises of The Savoy to shoot this look.  I always get nervous about shooting indoors with lighting issues adding a further level of challenges.  As we walked around The Savoy scouting for locations, we came across the most beautiful mirrored hall lit beautifully with floor to ceiling windows.  Luckily, it was completely empty and no further events were being held in there for the day.  It was simply the best location we could have stumbled across and we quickly got to work playing around with the windows and the mirrors.  I cannot be more satisfied with the results of these images and how we decided to shoot in black and white.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my Boodles Pas de Deux experience and a huge thank you to Boodles for making this shoot possible.
