NARS Makeup Tutorial

Nars Covent Garden Boutique

Ever since I was a teenage girl and my mum started using NARS’ Multiple (the original multi-purpose stick for eyes, cheeks, lips and body), I’ve always associated NARS as a revolutionary makeup brand that brought imaginative artistry and professional makeup techniques to women everywhere.

As NARS’s first European standalone boutique, I was over the moon when I got the chance to visit their Covent Garden boutique for a one on one session with its boutique stylist, Clayton Reid.  The personal styling session was such an intimate way for me to learn about NARS’s new season collection and tips on how to apply makeup.  Starting with a NARSskin consultation, Clayton gave me a step by step guide on how to maintain my skin and how to prep it before apply a full-face of makeup.  Inspired by Francois Nars’s life in Polynesia, Light Reflecting Complex range includes algae extract from French Brittany and French Polynesian seawater – all kinds of moisturising minerals and goodness that enhances radiance J  I particularly loved how the Aqua Gel Luminous Moisturizer instantly boost my skin and made it look luminous.

I have been looking for a foundation which instead of masking your face with layers and layers of products, enhances your natural beauty and keeps the skin looking translucent. So one of the most exciting revelations from my session was when Clayton said that NARS has a full range of tinted moisturizers which works just like foundation.  The Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is an oil free formula that provides a translucent veil of colour and sun protection whilst reducing the appearance of dark spots and blemishes.  As a firm believer of less is more, this tinted moisturizer was exactly what I have been looking for.  Not only did it keep my skin hydrated, it felt light on the skin and think it really brightened my complexion with a natural glow. This is highly recommended for anyone looking for an alternative to harder sitting foundations!

In keeping with my desire to find a natural look, Clayton did a fantastic job of choosing pallets with bronzed and warm blush tones for my final look.  I felt my face was illuminated and shimmered without looking as if I had multiple layers of makeup and I absolutely loved how Clayton expertly used NARS products to enhance my natural look instead of modifying my base features.  In a sea of contouring tutorials and illusion makeup, I truly felt like my session at NARS was a breath of fresh air and a reassuring sign that makeup should be a way to inspire self-expression and a way to show your confidence.

Thank you NARS for a great experience!

L’Oréal Paris MakeUp Genius

L’Oréal Paris | MakeUp Genius App

Available from Apple App Store and Google Play Store

Ladies, I am so excited to let you know that my prayers have been answered! L’Oréal Paris have created an ingenious makeup app called MakeUp Genius which virtually lets you trial new products and makeup looks!  Knowing what makeup or look works on my face can sometimes be really difficult.  With so many different products, colours and ranges, it is so easy to get lost in the world of makeup and get a little disillusioned with what to do with my face.  This is why I’ve always wished for a way to test makeup products on my face before having to make my way to the check out counter.  So the MakeUp Genius App is just what I’ve been waiting for!

I recently put the MakeUp Genius App to the test just before a summer ball I was attending.  I had picked out this beautiful backless dress for the occasion, but I had no idea what makeup look to go for.  To make my dilemma worse, time was not on my side so I couldn’t rely on my makeup artist friends or pop into a cosmetic shop and try some looks out.  The MakeUp Genius App was such a lifesaver as it enabled me to get the much needed makeup tips and try on some looks virtually to see how they worked with my outfit.

With an incredible facial recognition technology built in the app, the MakeUp Genius App let me mix, blend and clash all of L’Oréal Paris’s products on my face.  I was seriously blown away by how smart the app was where it followed my every facial expression as I smiled, puckered and tried to see how the products looked from every angle.  The MakeUp Genius App also has an infinite range of ready-to-wear looks to test out which made choosing the right look for the occasion such a fun experience.  In the end, I decided to go with the Elegant Couture look to match my summer ball dress.  With some really helpful how to tutorials built in the app as well, applying the look was super easy and I couldn’t have been more happy with the results.

The L’Oréal Paris MakeUp Genius App is a truly phenomenal technology and a must have smartphone application!

A Day of Bliss at the Royal Mansour Spa

Royal Mansour Spa

Marrakech, Morocco |

If it is actually possible to have an outer body experience, this might have just been mine.  The Royal Mansour Spa’s white iron atrium can only be described as heavenly.  The structure, which was designed to evoke a bird cage, is a design masterpiece that entices the senses.  As I gazed up the three story structure to the sky, a cloud of soft light seemed to engulf my spirit taking away the last shred of stress I had in my being.  I was completely under its spell.

Total tranquility followed for the next two and a half hours.  My appointment began with a consultation with a spa specialist who created a personalised programme designed to meet my needs.  After changing into my bathrobe, I was escorted to my treatment room where true bliss followed.  I was quite sceptical about whether the Maroc Maroc treatment would do the trick as I usually prefer strong massages that work the pressure points rather than oil based aroma therapy sessions.  So what I loved the most about my treatment was  how my massage was tailored to my desired strength level, soothing my muscles and clearing my mind.

Behind the Scenes

With an indoor swimming pool, a relaxation room, two Hammams and Watsu bath areas to enjoy, spending your time at the Spa can easily be an all day affair.  As it was Alice and my last day in Marrakech, we only had 2.5 hours for our treatment and to take some photographs of the premises. It was a shame we did not have more time to spend at the Spa to fully unwind and relax.  Once our treatments were done, we were back to business working against the clock to shoot.  We had less than 30 minutes before our car arrived, but the Maroc Maroc treatment had reinvigorated us for our short shoot and I cannot be happier with the results of the photographs.

We all deserve a little me time once in a while.  Be it a spa day, a gourmet binge at Chiltern Firehouse or a shopping spree at Liberty’s, we all have our guilty pleasures.  And why not?  We should definitely treat ourselves whenever possible.  I for one love to get my nails done.  But my nails are feeling the toll of a year long marathon of gel extensions and nail art, so I am back to the au-natural lately.  This doesn’t mean that I can’t have some fun getting my nails buffed, primed and manicured.  So whenever I have the time, I like to make a trip to my favourite nail salon.  My only wish is that I could go more often.  Slotting in a few hours for a manicure appointment is quite a challenge at times which means my nails get neglected and my outfit lacks the finishing touches.  I have had countless incidents where I rush to get ready for a night out only to feel a little annoyed with myself for not being able to get my nails done in time.

This is why I was so excited to hear about the new service which the Le Salon App is providing all us busy bees.  With a touch of our fingertips, the Le Salon App lets us book a nail treatment of our choice.  And, the nail technician comes to wherever we ask them to! I tried the service out the day after I returned from a whirl wind trip to Helsinki and I have to say, the service definitely resolved all my nail woes. I knew I was going to be exhausted so a few hours of bliss in the comfort of my own home was just what I needed.  As someone that goes to nail salons regularly, I have to say the very bubbly and friendly technician that came to my home provided premium service (her hand massage was to die for!).  What a delight to be able to experience such a high quality service conveniently with added time saving perks.  I am hooked!

I was feeling quite inspired and rejuvenated after my treatment, so a little fun with some Hermes scarves to show off my new manicure seemed like the natural progression of the day.
